Frequently Asked Questions
QUESTION: Do I give these scripts away free?
ANSWER: Yes - but only to Axminster Drama Club. Everyone else is asked to make a donation to my restoration fund. For this you will be e-mailed a full copy of the script plus any associated documents & get full backup support for technical or script issues and any rewriting I can help with eg reducing cast size. Prices vary with performances and size of audiences but are very competitive!

QUESTION: Can we have a look before we pay - we won’t nick it, honest, not one little bit of it.
ANSWER:  Of course - NEVER pay ANYONE until you have seen the whole script! (they don’t do refunds if it is awful) I will send PDFs of the scripts by e - mail. Let me know what you want. Once you have had a look do let me know one way or another, perhaps with the reason for the choice if you don’t go with it? Needless to say, if you don’t use the script you cannot use a smallest part of it in any of your future productions (as I say, someone always tells!)

QUESTION: What are typical costs?
ANSWER: Depends.  From FREE  to £250. For most clubs: £100.  Tell me who you are, what it is for, audience, etc and I’ll let you know! The fee includes any rewrites/alterations/reductions - just let me know what you need. If you are Cameron Macintosh the price might go up a bit. Similarly if you intend to keep any of the profits for yourself or any form of business then get in touch.

QUESTION: Are there any other petty demands ?
ANSWER:Yes: I need to know where, when (and how many) performances would take place, who would be performing them, to what size audiences and perhaps afterwards some feedback?

QUESTION: Can we alter the script?
ANSWER: It is designed to be adapted to make the local jokes work (there are special ‘gaps’ highlighted grey that you can legally change). Also adapt it if you have to change the sex of a character (ideally not during the performances, but accidents do happen)  but you cannot take or “improve” chunks of it or use it in “your own” work. Small legal thing called ‘copyright’. Someone will ‘dob’ on you - they always do.
Feel free to add  “Adapted for *** Drama Club by Fred Jones”

QUESTION: Is that all?
ANSWER: Almost - call me vain perhaps, but you must put my name on any posters/programs and printed copies of the script (at the start and in the footer) AND (is there no end to it?) in the program put the name of this web site (a small price to pay).
